The Liquid Collection

In addition to joint ventures and events, the members of frontviews are creating an independent collection of artworks in various media: the Spectre Union ‘Liquid’ Collection. An independent committee selects these works in close consultation with the invited artists. The selected works are then added to the collection on loan for a long period of time, presented on the website, shown in exhibitions and loaned to interested parties for residential or commercial premises.  This unique concept means that the collection is constantly changing dynamically and at the same time represents the current production of the art scene. In collective efforts, the works are virtually reanimated from the studios, meaning they are taken out of the studios, made visible again and brought back into discourse. Because of this fluid dynamic, which permanent collections do not have, we call it a „Liquid Collection“.

Selection of the Collection

Artists of the collection will be invited by an artistic board to be part of the collection by lending up to 6 jointly elected artworks on contract base. The Collection Committee (the CoCo) is made up of 5 artists and art theorists of the frontviews association. The regular loan period is 3 years, after which the contract is extended, the works are exchanged or finally returned. The collection exclusively integrates works from the studios, no gallery consignments.

Cooperations with other private collections

Special case: The CoCo can also invite private collections to lend up to 6 works. The conditions are the same as for works from the artists studios.

Collection Committee (CoCo)

Frontviews will organise a collection committee consisting of 5 selected frontviews members. This CoCo will approach to selected, suitable artists and organise the choice of the works together with the regarding artists. The CoCo of 5 members will be able to make decisions once at least 3 members of the CoCo discuss and decide whom to invite for the collection. The panel will start with artists who have already worked with frontviews. Later, besides making personal contacts, also open calls could be a possibility.

Artworks from the collection for Spectre Union members

The individual membership of Spectre Union of €30 per month also includes the option to borrow works for a longer period of up to three years for your own premises. The membership fee includes the loan of up to six works from the Liquid Collection. The association issues a donation receipt for membership fees.

Special Case: Companies

Membership of Spectre Union for Companies are 240 € per month. A maximum of 24 works can be borrowed, max. 3 years, min. 12 months and a donation receipt will be provided. Also Art Advisory or installation service can be booked on top additionally.

Insurance

All works are insured from nail to nail, including the storage period.

Storage

Several storage facilities are provided.

Transports

Within Berlin the transports are included in the member fee. The average transport in Berlin will cost 30 €. Outside of Berlin Spectre will negotiate the transports costs individually with the borrowers.

Exhibitions with the Spectre Union Collection

Spectre Union holds thematic exhibitions with the collection twice a year at HAUNT, each lasting four – six weeks. On top there could be always options to show the Liquid Collection in other art venues.
