This work is a heliogravure. In this printmaking process a photographic image is transferred onto a copper plate and printed using intaglio techniques. The original is a drawing in the same format, drawn with two acrylic pens at the same time using both hands.

About the work
“Untitled two-handed” (2023) is a heliogravure which is based on a drawing from 2021. While standing, Wendland was drawing two handed – simultaneously with her left and right hand. Simple and ritualized movement sequences and gestures are central. Through performative repetition, the aim is to continuously practice an attentive basic attitude.

Saskia Wendland‘s artistic practice consists primarily of drawing, but also incorporates performative means and installation. Simple and ritualized movement sequences and gestures are central. Through performative repetition, the aim is to continuously practice an attentive basic attitude. The element of time is essential in her work and determines the duration of its creation. Calm breathing is essential in this process. Over minutes, hours, and months, various condensed forms emerge. Repetition as a method is fundamental to Wendland, it creates duration and intensity.
Saskia Wendland has received various grants and fellowships, such as the NEUSTARTplus grant by Stiftung Kunstfonds, the Berlin Senate Research Fellowship, the Berlin Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt (project for women artists), the Japanese Government Fellowship, and the prestigious DAAD Fellowship to Kyoto, Japan. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including Liu Haisu Art Museum in Shanghai; Deutscher Künstlerbund, Berlin; Plateforme, Paris; Annet Gelink Gallery, Amsterdam; Galerie Vincenz Sala, Berlin and Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin. Since 2020 she is an active member of the collective Frontviews e.V.
